After preparing for her role in The Super Mario Movie, Anya Taylor-Joy declared that she is now a “gamer.”
In the next movie, which stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Taylor-Joy, 26, provides the voice of Princess Peach.
With Fred Armisen of Saturday Night Live providing the voice of Cranky Kong, the film also stars Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.
Taylor Joy said in an interview with Modern Luxury San Diego that her interest in video games was sparked by her studies for the role of Princess Peach.
“So now I am a gamer, and it’s really fun,” she said. “Ideally, I like playing at arcades, because, again, it’s like cinema; I love the ceremony. I’ll go with a whole bunch of friends. And we’ll just spend hours at the arcade.”
Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are in charge of directing the movie, which was written by Matthew Fogel.
John Leguizamo, who played Luigi in the 1993 live-action film Super Mario Bros., has voiced his disapproval of Pratt’s choice to play the renowned Italian plumber. The casting was “backwards,” according to the Latin actor.
The Queen’s Gambit actress will take on the role of a younger version of Charlize Theron’s 2015 film heroine.
The Witch and The Northman star Taylor-Joy, who has appeared in a number of thrillers, said of the next movie: “It’s the dirtiest and the bloodiest I have ever been, which is saying something, actually saying something.”
On April 7, 2023, The Super Mario Bros. Movie premieres in theatres. In addition to Chris Hemsworth, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Tom Burke, Furiosa is slated to hit theatres in 2024.
